Our hiking tips

Our insider tips for spectacular tours in the heart of the Oetztal Alps
As locals, we know the area and the mountains around us by heart. We want you to get to know the places we like so much, that’s why we collected some personal hiking tips:

  • Bergl Alm
Our very own alpine inn is located at 2,214 m and is considered as one of the most beautiful spots in Val Senales. Schmid and Caro will spoil you with delicious Tyrolean dishes.
  • The farm hike
Hike along the lake to Vernagt. Once there, join hiking trail no. 2, which will take you to the Tisenhof farm. Hike leisurely on (trail no. 9) to the Raffeinhof and up to the Finailhof farm. After a regenerating break, path no. 9 leads you back to the hotel.

  • Val di Fosse
Val di Fosse is the largest side valley of Val Senales, accessible via a narrow, in part steep road, leading past ancient farms. From the paid parking lot at the Vorderkaserhof Inn you can start the Adventure Trail. Along the entire, easily accessible trail, the visitors learn many interesting and worthwhile facts about the unique natural and cultural landscape. On the route that leads to the Eishof (2,071 m) and from there to the Stettiner Inn, you walk past beautiful rustic alpine pastures over and over…

  • Penaud Alm
From Certosa, you hike over lush green meadows and scenting forests until reaching the Penaud Hut (2,320 m) after about a 2-hour walk.

  • Lafetzalm and Bichele
This beautiful panoramic circular hike starts in the idyllic village of Madonna di Senales and leads through wonderful forests up to the Lafetzalm Hut. From here, continue to Bichele and enjoy the fantastic view over the valley!

Not enough? Here some more mountain huts to explore:
  • Mountain hut Klosteralm
  • Mastaun Mountain Hut
  • Mitterkaser
  • Rableid Mountain Hut

Alpine tours

The mountains are calling
Conquering a summit higher than 3,000 m is an incredible feeling! An experience that you will never forget. Start directly from Hotel Gerstgras and climb the most beautiful surrounding peaks: Palla Bianca Mountain, Punta d'Oberettes Peak, Cima del Dosso Peak, Punta Finail Peak or Similiaun Mountain. Even non-experts can manage to climb these mountains with a certain degree of endurance, a secure step and without fear of heights.

Reaching for the hights

A visit to the high-rope climbing garden in Val Senales
Only 1 km from Hotel Gerstgras, the Ötzi Rope Park promises lots of fun for all age groups. Amid a beautiful natural landscape and above an imposing canyon you can test your audacity on the two 60-metre high Flying Foxes over the Senales River. Just enjoy the wind around your ears on the giant swing! An expert team of instructors is at your side and looks after your safety.
